One of the most positive parts of my visit to Bangalore was a visit to Akshara Foundation, an organisation that tries to spread education to community, private and government partnership. What made me particularly happy was that the work this NGO does is part of an increasing trend to bring in good corporate practices into social work. Good corporate practice implies accountability, (like audited accounts for example), structured agendas, performance reviews and concrete vision plans and an implementable strategy to do this. Civil society at work.
It is for this reason that I am not so happy today. Indian corporates one of which I have just had a nasty experience is a prime example of feudal behavior in suits and boots! A contract job differs from daily wage labour, blaming people for processes and remaining understaffed to save costs without adequate automation is alarming! How about sifting the best and not the worst from the private sector?
