Laptop Looking

I need to buy a laptop. I also need advice. I’m oscillating between a Mac and a regular Acer with Windows. Anyone with advice on prices, where and how to buy– maybe with EMIs or a loan. Help.

I have a couple of specific questions:

1) Does a Mac really not crash and what about compatability issues with other computers that run on Windows…

2) Is a second hand laptop a good idea?

3) What is the ideal weight of a laptop?

Anything else you think I might need to know.

  1. The advice would and should depend on what you are going to use it for.

For Net-Office applications? A lot of gaming? Watching movies and music?

  2. Second hand laptops is not recommended. There aren’t much tools / services in the market that can do a health-check on the Laptop and tell you whether its worth buying.

Mac comes with quite a lot of Software from Image Editing to Video Rendering etc etc. And hence the price is more. Look into what they offer. If you see that the packages they bundle are all useful, then decide to go for a Mac.

Sony w/ XP or IBM w/ XP have been the best in industry and cheaper than Mac. Lighter Sony & IBM cost a little more. Service and warranty from them is reliable.

Ideal weight is 6-8 Pounds – almost 3-4 KGs. If you need further info, let me know.

About the crash part, I have been using windows for 10+ years now. It has improved quite a lot. XP has been pretty stable – I use it almost 8-10 hrs a day with quite a load. IMHO, these days it doesn’t matter.
The only drawback Windows still has, is the Virus attacks. Spend a bit more and get a Anti-Virus (for the curing part). Install “spybot”, a freeware for the prevention. Hope that helps.

    Extra Tips:
Make sure the Disk Space is atleast 80GB, 512MB RAM min, in-built Wireless Access, USB & Firewire ports, Bluetooth enabled. Upgrading Disk & RAM after you buy a Laptop is a painful process. All the other accessories mentioned makes life easier in the long run and you don’t have to carry extra attachments when you travel.
(Thats it for now – its lengthier than your blor entry 😉 )
